Postal Services in the Maldives

Postal services were introduced in the year 1906. But until early 1970's there was not much development in the services. With the promotion of tourism and related economic activities from 1970s the postal sector also geared up and the services expanded.

Till 30 June 1994 the postal department functioned as a Government Department. From 1 July 1994 the Department was corporatised and Maldives Post Limited (MPL) came into being as a State owned limited company.
